Legal Issues That Crop Up Constantly In The News

Legal issues that are commonly talked about in the media can vary from decade to decade and what seems to occupy the mainstream media space now will probably not be the same in five or even ten years time.  In the 1970 there was a great deal of worry and reporting on the troubles that engulfed northern ireland.  The history will always be contentious but in that decade there was much activity of a very much illegal nature being carried out and specialist secure courts were constantly trying cases under the terrorism acts.  Then as things quietened down a tad, more conflicts abroad brought about a uge spate of passenger airline hijackings and the proliferation of criminal and terrorist gangs wreaking havoc all over the world.   These in turn have faded into oblivion as newer means of extracting terror induced payouts are found to be less effort and probably gain greater payout.  The most recent scurge on our every day lives is that of scam calls and cyber theft where criminals find out passwords and entry codes and work their way to fooling innocent folk into transferring life savings, pension funds etc with well rehearsed and very believable scenarios.   This last one is very frustrating as the victims always insist the perpertrater was so believable, sounded so genuine.  They get hoodwinked into pressing the transfer button even though their bank will have inbuilt anti scam mechanisms that step in and question whether the activity is legit and suggesting the victim step back and think before pressing ‘send’.   Sadly, in their panic the victims very often ignore the bank advice which they very much regret later on.
