When we think about the world of work, be that spent in one office over the years, one year following on in that dreary fashion . . . . no one doing anything even remotely interesting, let alone breaking all the rules in the company employee handbook! But there always are folk who cannot help themselves, the mealy minded band who display can’t disregard for the rule book that offers safety, protection from accidental and not so accidental fire damage and all manner of upsetting activities in a days work.
Take the average apprentice in a company who are proud of their all apprentice trained workforce. He will be very aware that any slippage will take time away from a very tight schedule where he has to demonstrate special skills such as lightweight welding or precision engraving etc. The Human Resources department will be hot on the checking up of every apprentice placement as there are very strict rules governing this cheap form of employing staff. To give out apprenticeships means you are well off and your apprentices are jolly lucky to have been given such opportunities.
Most of these training schemes last four years, which includes sessions of learning absolutely what the company is about and how they expect the apprentice to perform and represent the firm at all times. There were several years when apprenticeships were very out of fashion but now the wisdom of not sending hundreds of youngsters to university is so important. Many are not suited to that style of learning and will rack up enormous personal debt for no good reason.
